Western cartoon began inside the early 20th-century, when Western filmmakers attempted the movement practices also launched in Germany, England, the USA and Russia. A claim for that earliest Western cartoon is Katsudō Shashin, an undated and individual work by an unknown author. In 1917, the initial specialist and works that were publicly exhibited began to appear. Animators such as Ōten Shimokawa and Seitarou Kitayama created numerous works, with the oldest surviving video being Kouchi's Namakura Gatana, a two-minute clip of a samurai looking to check a new sword on his goal only to suffer defeat. The 1923 Great Kantō earthquake resulted in common deterioration to China's structure along with the deterioration of Shimokawais factory, destroying most of these early works.
